New Barge for Morwenna Shipping Company

The ceremony of launching the new dry cargo barge took place at Kostroma shipbuilding and ship-repair yard. The 6516-design barge will be used for outsized freight shipping.

The barge had been under construction for six months involving approximately 200 yard employees. According to the client, Morwenna Shipping Company, Kostroma enterprise completed the work of adequate quality within specified timeframe.
Length of the barge is about 67 meters, and lifting capacity – up to 3 thousand tons. The vessel was given the name MORWENNA-2501. Anastasia Olegovna Bubenova, MORWENNA specialist, became a godmother of the vessel.
Designer – Passat design bureau. MORWENNA-2501 is designed for carrying general, oversize and heavy cargoes. The vessel meets all the requirements of international conventions applicable at the time of keel laydown. The hull is reinforced in accordance with the requirements of Register of Shipping to ice category Ice1.
The 6516-design barge is a steel single-deck non-propelled ship with 19 ballast tanks equipped with pontoon hatch covers. The barge hull has plane-faced symmetrical bow and stern lines. To keep the barge steady along the way, two stabilizers are mounted on the stern side.
The ship can be operated by either pushing or towing method. The towing bridle is fixed with Smit brackets. Maximum length is 65.00 m, overall breadth – 16.77 m, breadth without fenders – 16.50 m, hull height – 4.00 m.
The top deck structure is designed to withstand the intensity of local distributed load of 10 t/m2 and can be used for loading/unloading also by RORO method. It is also possible to install standard ramps for roll-on/roll-off. On top of that, possibility of bottom landing on specially prepared surface is ensured.
MORWENNA-2501 has four electric ground tackle winches. Power is supplied from the tow boat or by external source. The winches’ drums capacity is 200 m of cable wire, 28 mm in diameter.
The keel of the lead barge MORWENNA-2501 of 6516 design (yard number NB 53) was laid down at Kostroma shipbuilding and ship-repair yard (now – AO Kostroma yard) on October 26, 2015. It was launched on June 01, 2016.
