International Conference

We are pleased to announce the conference HEAVY AFRICA to be held on February 21, 2019 at Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah Hotel, Cairo, Egypt. The conference is focused on transportation and installation of overweight and oversize loads in the African countries.

For the first time in five years, the rates of economic growth in 2017 were registered to come back to the average level of 2.6% in the African countries located south of the Sahara (a year before this indicator was 1.4%). For 2018 the International Monetary Fund (IMF) economists forecast rise in GDP growth pace to 3.4% in the African states. Ethiopia (8.5% of GDP), Senegal (6.5%), Guinea (6.7%) and Ghana (5.9%) are among the leaders.

The major GDP growth is secured by restoration of oil and agricultural production in Nigeria (the GDP increase last year was negative, -1.5%), as well as cooling of tension in the Niger River estuary. Angola and the Republic of South Africa made their own contribution to economic recovery by producing oil and extracting mineral resources (economic stagnation was registered in these countries in 2016). Cease of drought in the east and south of the continent also influenced economic improvement in the region.

As of today, the top three largest African economies include Nigeria (the world’s 27th in GDP volumes), Egypt (32nd) and South Africa (39th). The PwC analysts predict rather high GDP growth pace for these countries in future: 6.6% per year for Egypt, 6.2% for Nigeria, and 5.8% for the Republic of South Africa. As a result, Nigeria will jump to the 15th place, Egypt will be ranked 18th, and South Africa will move to the 30th place by 2050.

Even now, many of African countries have reached the annual economic growth of 5%. In the first place, the region is interesting in the context of rich natural resources. Increase of mining activities and infrastructure projects expenses will push up demand for logistics services in this part of the world.

At the HEAVY AFRICA Conference we will discuss opportunities and hazards for the project freight industry. Among the Conference topics:

  • Port capacities of the regional countries and their efficiency;
  • Condition of road infrastructure;
  • Risk assessment, including piracy issues in coastal waters;
  • Customs law aspects;
