In comparison with the subways of other European capitals, the Warsaw metro is inferior to them in size. Despite this, the history of the subway in the Polish capital already counts a century. City authorities repeatedly announce plans to build a city underground railway, but they were not destined to come to life. Only in 1983 did Warsaw seriously start building its own metro. The first metro station was opened in 1995. In 2008, the trains went to the final station on the first line. On March 8, 2015, the first section of the second line was opened.

To date, the length of the lines of the Warsaw Metro is totaled to 29.2 km and has 28 stations. At all stations, there are two pairs of hours, which indicate the current time and number of minutes and seconds before the arrival of the train, as well as the model of the train. All stations are also equipped with elevators for the disabled.

The current device

Plans for the construction of the Warsaw Metro assumed that in peak hours, the intervals between trains were no more than 90 seconds. However, at the moment there is no urgent need for this. On weekdays, the metro operates at intervals of about 3-4 minutes, almost all day, that is, from 7.00 to 21.00 (at peak hours, the interval is 2:20 min along the M1 line). On weekends, trains arrive every 5-7 minutes.

By February 2009, all stations are equipped with monitors, which indicate the amount of time left before the arrival of the train, as well as the type (model) of the train. Prior to this, as in all metro stations, only intermittent clocks hung. The first monitors were installed at the stations “Marymont” (to its opening) and “Plats Wilson”, then they displayed the departure time of the shuttle train. All the new stations were initially equipped with monitors, after which they were installed at all metro stations.

Passenger Satisfaction

According to polls conducted in June 2009, 95.5% of people noted that they are satisfied with the services of the Underground. This result is 4% better compared to 2008. They also positively assess safety, speed, and maintenance.
